And it would indeed have turned out like that if some nob wasn’t hit by a train on the line that my train uses.

I’m not sure about the details but I would think it isn’t pretty when you get hit by a train so there’s probably a lot of mess to clean up. And although passing trains wouldn’t have much of a problem to pass through splattered brains i’m imagining this is not the case with scattered bones as those might derail a train and that’s why they were “delayed”. It’s also an accident scene so there must be an ongoing investigation over there. Not that they’ve labelled it an accident. On the train website it just says that “a person was hit by a train” as if they’re describing a bar fight scene.

I guess if it was a suicide they would have said that a “fatality” occurred or something similar. If someone fell into the gap between the train and the platform they would have used the word “injured”. I guess, that is. I mean how easy is it to fall into the rail tracks with a thick yellow line that’s half a meter away from the gap rim?

So let’s assume it’s a suicide. In that case I’d like to send a message out to all prospective suicide commiters. Please, pretty please with sugar on top, do kill yourselves during early office hours when there’ll be plenty of time to clean up your spilled guts off the tracks before people start to leave their offices. You may have lost your jobs and can’t pay your debts but throwing yourselves on the tracks when a train is passing by isn’t working well for the rest of us who still have jobs and work 14 hours a day to keep them, now is it? We get home even later, we sleep even less and we are at risk of making mistakes the next day when we go to work tired. If you’ve read this and still want to commit suicide at/after home-time, then you’re a hater and I hope you die. Err… Scrap that. I hope you’ll burn in hell if there is afterlife. Which I think there isn’t. But that’s a topic for another entry.

I’m far more annoyed that Dann Huff isn’t singing in the new Giant album than Udo isn’t singing in the new  Accept album. While I have nothing against Terry Brock singing in just about any of the bands he’s worked in, I just think that Giant IS Dann Huff while Accept isn’t Udo. Accept is Wolf Hoffman and maybe even Peter Baltes. Maybe. Yeah, Udo is obviously good too but he’s left Accept before and they’d been dead for 14 years and he isn’t coming back and that’s that. Giant, on the other hand, have only released 4 studio albums, sometimes very far apart, which apparently is a great many for an AOR / Melodic Rock band. So if we get to see them once every decade at least we want Dann Huff to be a full time songwriter and frontman. We already have one Strangeways and they are good and we want Giant to sound like Giant. And because we ‘ve gone past the young adult mentality by which we thought that all musicians do in hiatuses is write new songs and wait around to be signed again, we understand that although it’s not real Giant without Dann Huff, we’d take Terry Brock in his place anytime. The CD, or should I say the MP3 purchase, is still good, true AOR but I think I would have enjoyed it a little better if they released it under a different name.

By the way I’ve noticed a man called Bono is trying to copy Terry Brock in his dressing outfit.

Nothing says “life isn’t fair” more than when someone makes more money in a day just for taking off her clothes than many make in a month working real jobs.

The one good thing about traveling mid-October is that most people don’t take holiday. You can get past the check-in and security quickly and the queues at the duty-free are very small. I still haven’t got my head around the sports cars that dominate the middle of the departure lounge and taunt me. So, that was the timeline up to getting into the aircraft. The real fun begins next.

I’ve said time and again that the whole no electronic devices on the aircraft business has no basis whatsoever. Yes, they do let you use them when the plane has completed the take-off phase but do they ever tell you when that take-off phase is complete? Do they fuck. I normally wait until the plane feels level and maybe a couple of people have got off their seats and opened the overhead compartments. That’s my cue to turn on my netbook, MP3 player and what have you.

Do you remember back in 2004-2005 when mobile phones with a flight safety mode was a new thing? Airlines didn’t mention anything about not using mobile phones “during take-off and landing even if they are set to flight safety mode”. I was wondering how the person sitting across the isle from me would react if he saw me playing with my phone which was one of the few models at the time that had had a flight safety mode at all. Nobody had acted cranky, though. You would think that at least those who take their fucking sprogs with them on the plane would make some noise about me cutting short the life of their little shithead kids.

Before take-off they announce that even if you’re a frequent flyer it’s recommended that you watch the safety demonstration. Like safety standards have changed at all in the past 2 months since I took my last foreign holiday. The security standards, however, have indeed changed in the past 9 years and we’ve yet to watch a security demonstration by the cabin crew. I’m especially interested in knowing the most expedient way of wrestling to the floor someone you hear scream “Allahu Akbar”.  If he is far, will someone closer to him tackle him? If not, will I have a chance of diving in his direction before he detonates or is that as aspiring as fulfilling my objective with a fuck-target moments before a crash?

His latest one – “An Irish Joke”.

I wonder what he’d have to say about the “We sell big knockers” advert. If you can’t be bothered to click on the link, let me give you the rundown: A door and window company’s advert featured a topless woman with the caption “We sell big knockers”. A woman got, yes, that’s right, offended and the advert was pulled out. Before we even got to see the fucking thing, would you believe.

Then a lady in her early fifties told her off.

The chav girl hung up and said “It’s only you who is moaning, no one else”.

“I’m sure a lot of other people feel that way but are too polite to speak up”

Me, on the other hand, while I agree that a lot of other people, myself included, feel that way, they would much rather stay quiet than risk physical confrontation with someone who could carry a blade for all they know. Granted, it was 8:30 am, the two chavs were not intoxicated and didn’t look belligerent, but really and truly there’s only one way to find out whether they would assault you. And this isn’t a place where someone who’s not wearing a uniform will come to your aid. So at least the middle-aged woman did test the waters and kind of gave me the green light to show how polite I can be to a chav that I know won’t retaliate. Of course, it’s not exactly a demonstration of leadership to tread when another has, so I let it slide. The chav promptly got up, followed by her friend, and mumble that she can’t be pestered like she’s some twelve year old. True. But she can surely be pestered like she’s got “pestilence” written across her forehead.

Pros of telling off a chav: they’ll think twice before doing it to other passengers in the future because someone is showing them they won’t take it. Cons: you can be killed or permanently crippled or your career can be destroyed for killing them and going to prison. Really now, is it worth getting life and having to tell your family that you ended up in prison because someone made you mad? Think about it. Whether the departed was an inbred fuck who would never contribute positively to society doesn’t mean much to the court.

So basically I and the rest of the passengers in the carriage chose the right course of action.

Βλέπεις, συνήθως όταν επισκέπτεσαι τον τόπο καταγωγής σου όλοι σου, εσύ μπορεί να έχεις άδεια, δεν έχουν όμως και οι φίλοι σου. Και τι κάνεις όταν δεν τους βλέπεις; Θα ήθελα να απαντήσω σ’ αυτή τη ρητορική ερώτηση με “οδηγώ στην παραλία και τραβάω φωτογραφίες” αλλά κακά τα ψέματα, όλα αυτά τα ‘χουμε κάνει, στον τόπο που γεννήθηκα πηγαίνω, τα ΄χω δει σχεδόν όλα και είναι πάντα το ίδιο πράγμα. Να νοικιάσω να δω DVD δεν παίζει μιας και όπως ανακάλυψα όλα τα ντιβιντάδικα της περιοχής έχουν κλείσει. Οπότε ανοίγω την τηλεόραση. Εδώ δικέ μου βρίσκεις διαμάντια. Μισώ τις λίστες αλλά λέω να κάνω μια εξαίρεση εδώ μιας και αλλιώς ρισκάρω αυτό το κείμενο να βγει αχταρμάς με τόσα που έχω δει, σ’ αυτή μου την επίσκεψη αλλά και σε άλλες.

Τζούλια Αλεξανδράτου με γιο πολιτικού στο πολεμικό μουσείο.

Ξέρω ότι η Τζούλια Αλεξανδράτου είναι μοντέλο, αυτό το καταλάβαμε. Τον άλλον δεν τον ήξερα, πιθανότατα γιατί μέχρι τώρα δεν έχει κάνει τίποτα, δεν έχει δημόσια παρουσία, πιθανώς τώρα ξεκινάει τη ζωή του. To cut long story short, Ζαγορίτης βγαίνει έξω και γνωρίζει Τζούλια. Ακολούθως παίζει ένα “right now date” και πάνε σ’ άλλο μαγαζί. Μετά ο τύπος της λέει “που ΄σαι δικιά μου, θα σε πήγαινα στη γκαρσονιέρα μου αλλά ξέρω κάτι καλές γωνιές στο Πολεμικό Μουσείο και τα παιδιά εκεί είναι δικά μου, θα μας αφήσουν να μπούμε μέσα”. Εντάξει. Αν είσαι νέος ενήλικας λες “καλά, σίγουρα θα πέσει η γκόμενα μ’ αυτή την ιδέα”. Αν η γκόμενα είναι επίσης νέα ενήλικας δηλαδή. Κι αν ακόμα δεν είναι και τα ‘χει ακούσει όλα, όπως η Τζούλια Αλεξανδράτου, πάλι θα πέσει μιας και είσαι γόνος πολιτικής οικογένειας. Μέχρι εδώ καλά. Μετά τους πιάνουν στα πράσα και μασάνε τα λόγια τους, προσπαθούν να δώσουν εξηγήσεις.  Ο Ζαγορίτης προσπαθεί να βάλει τον πατέρα να ξελασπώσει τον κανακάρη του, λες και θα γίνει κάτι τελοσπάντων. Π.χ. θα σβήσει τις μνήμες των τηλεθεατών και θα βάλει να κατασχεθούν όλες οι φωτογραφίες και τα βίντεο που δείχνουν τους δύο να κωλοτρίβονται. Έχω να προτείνω κάτι πολύ απλό. Ζαγορίτη: Εντάξει, είσαι φραγκάτος. Έβαλες βύσμα για να πάρεις καλή μετάθεση. Πήγες και τα ‘ριξες σε τσοντού εθνικής εμβέλειας και σκέφτηκες από μέσα σου ότι δε μπορεί ρε πούστη να έχει πάει να το κάνει σε μουσείο, θα την πάω από κει και θα τη φιγουράρω και στα άλλα τα βύσματα που κοιμούνται στους κοιτώνες. Όλα μέχρι εδώ καλά. Ο καθένας κάνει το κομμάτι του όπως μπορεί, αυτός όπως και πολύ λίγοι άλλοι είναι μερικές κλίμακες παραπάνω από τους περισσότερους από μας τους άντρες. ΑΛΛΑ: βγάλε μια σπονδυλική στήλη ρε παιδί μου. Πες “ναι ρε τσουτσούνια, στο φινάλε χτύπησα και τον πρώτο μούνο στη πιάτσα και μου κανε και λίγο τη δύσκολη αρχικά αλλά ήξερα ότι στο τέλος θα ‘πεφτε και ξέρετε γιατί; Γιατί ο μπαμπάς μου είναι το Χ ανώτερο στέλεχος στο Ψ μεγαλοκόμμα και πήγα και της το μόστραρα!  Σας έχω όλους γραμμένους στ’ αρχίδια μου, και την άλλη βδομάδα θα βρω μια άλλη κάργια και θα την πάω στο Λόφο της Πνύκας να της πετάξω τα μάτια έξω και για τα μάτια του κόσμου θα παω για εικονική δίκη στο ναυτοδικείο αλλά θα τη βγάλω ασφαλώς καθαρή, και εσείς όλοι με ζηλεύετε και με βρίζετε αλλά θελετε να μου μοιάσετε γιατί πηδάω τα καλύτερα μουνιά της επικρατείας, μουνιά που άντρες με τα διπλάσιά μου χρόνια δε μπορούν να σταυρώσουν κι όλα αυτά ξέρετε γιατί; Γιατί είμαι πλούσιος, να γιατί! Αυτή τη ζωή θα ζω όσο εσείς θα σκίζεστε μέχρι τα 65 για ένα μεροκάματο.” Αυτό να έκανες και θα σε εψαχνα για να σου σφίξω το χέρι. Αλεξανδράτου: Αυτή το είπε τουλάχιστον ότι είναι μεγάλη πόρνη. Αλλά αυτό έγινε πολύ πριν το περιστατικό με το μουσείο. Περιμένω πότε θα βγει να δηλώσει “Μη μου ζαλίζετε τον έρωτα, στο φινάλε ναι ρε, μου την πέφτουν 10-15 πλούσιοι εκεί που βγαίνω/δουλεύω/τραγουδάω, μου κάνουν δώρα περιδέραια, αυτοκίνητα, συμβόλαια για CD και γενικώς ό,τι θέλω το έχω. Θα έχω να λέω στις κάργιες τις φίλες μου ότι γιος Χ μεγαλοστελέχους του Ψ κόμματος με πήγε στο Πολεμικό Μουσείο για να με ξεσκίσει και θα ζηλεύουν μέχρι αηδίας. Με ανεβάζουν πουτάνα σε blogs και forums και κουτσομπολίστικα περιοδικά αλλά έχω φράγκα και η γνώμη τους δε μετράει μία για μένα.”  Πέριμένω και τους δύο σε 5…4…3…2….

Ράδιο Αρβύλα

Δε θα ήταν ωραία να πληρωνόσουν και να κάθεσαι να λες μαλακίες ωσάν να είσαι στην καφετέρια με την παρέα σου;  Έτσι απλά. Ακόμα και οι “μεσημεριανές” εκπομπές, παρά το ότι είναι σκέτη ξεφτίλα, τουλάχιστον οι συντελεστές προσπαθούν. Καλλωπίζονται πριν βγουν στην τηλεόρα, στέλνουν κόσμο σε νυχτερινά μαγαζιά, κυνηγούν “διάσημους”, μερικές φορές επινοούν ιστορίες από το πουθενά περι “γνωστού πολιτικού που εθεάθη να πασπατεύει τα βυζιά γνωστής μοντέλας”, φέρνουν καλεσμένους στο στούντιο, και γενικώς έχουν ανάγει σε επιστήμη το να παίρνεις κάτι εντελώς αδιάφορο και να του δίνεις σημασία λες και είναι η πετρελαιοκηλίδα της BP.  Οι άλλοι, εκείνοι του Ράδιο Αρβύλα τι κάνουν; Κάποτε είχαν εκπομπές που ασχολούνταν με σημαντικά θέματα και τα έκαναν σάτιρα, δηλαδή όντως δούλευαν. Έπαιρναν κάτι σημαντικό και ασχολούνταν μαζί του σα να ήταν σημαντικό. Τώρα απλώς παίρνουν κάτι σημαντικό και απλώς τον ξύνουν. Όπως θα κάναμε εμείς στην καφετέρια αλλά πληρώνοντας τον καφέ. Ακόμα και το Loose Women δείχνει σαν εκπομπή του History Channel μπροστά του. Τουλάχιστον 10 λεπτά που είδα από μια εκπομπή.

“Μεσημεριανές” εκπομπές

Έκανα μια παρένθεση παραπάνω για τις εν λόγω εκπομπές κι εδώ θα αφιερώσω περισσότερο χώρο. Προσπαθώ να σκεφτώ ποια είναι η Ελληνίδα Katie Price και τι νούμερο σουτιέν φοράει αλλά δε μου έρχεται τίποτε στο μυαλό. Έχω χάσει επεισόδια τόσα χρόνια. Καλά οι “μεσημεριανές” εκπομπές υπάρχουν εδώ κι αρκετά φεγγάρια αλλά δεν είχει αυτό σημασία. Σημασία έχει ότι όλοι τις βλέπουμε κι ας τις βρίζουμε. Κάτι  που το Ράδιο Αρβύλα δεν έχει κάνει και αυτό γιατί εκείνοι έχουν σταθερό κοινό είτε λόγω Α.Μ.Α.Ν. που τους βλέπουν λόγω κεκτημένης ταχύτητας είτε λόγω τωρινού περιεχομένου είτε και των δύο και κανείς άλλος δεν ασχολείται. Ενώ οι “μεσημεριανές”… Ίσως επειδή πάνε με το φαγητό. Συνήθως όταν είμαι Ελλάδα και τις βλέπω, τρώω όσπρια, οπότε έχει δημιουργηθεί  ένα neural pathway στον εγκέφαλό μου τέτοιο που τώρα κάθε φορά που τρώω φασόλια ή φακές με ατζούγια αμέσως σκέφτομαι τη Φαίη Σκορδά . Αντίστοιχα, η θέα της Φαίη Σκορδά  κάνει τη φασολάδα να πάει κάτω πιο εύκολα (και με παπάρα στο ζουμί). Και δεν κάνω πλάκα. Καλά, είναι και η σκέψη των nouveau riche. Τους βλέπεις στα παράθυρα και λες μέσα σου ότι μπορεί να έχεις τα προβλήματά σου, μπορεί να τρώς πακέτο απ’ το αφεντικό, μπορεί να έχεις έξοδα αλλά τουλάχιστον δεν είσαι φαντασμένος μαλάκας/αδερφή/airhead με φουσκωτά βυζιά που πλούτισε χτες, αν και μπορεί να θέλεις να μοιάσεις σ’ ένα απ΄τα παραπάνω αρχέτυπα μιας και έχουν λεφτά. Αυτοί όλοι είναι μια σκάλα παραπάνω από το συρφετό που πηγαίνει στον Jeremy Kyle.

Εδώ θα έλεγα “Ο Jeremy Kyle είναι ο αντίστοιχος Χ της Ελληνικής τηλεόρασης” αλλά δε νομίζω να υπάρχει αντίστοιχος στην Ελλάδα. Ας τον παρομοιάσουμε με τον Jerry Springer που είναι και λίγο πιο γνωστός. Για τον Jeremy Kyle τώρα. Να πούμε, ήξερα τι ΣΚΑΤΟ με δύο πόδια κυκλοφορεί στους δρόμους της Βρετανίας αλλά ΠΟΥ ΤΟΥΣ ΒΡΙΣΚΕΙ ΡΕ και τους γραπώνει; Έχει συνεργεία σε συνεχές standby έξω από council flats και τους προσφέρουν μια νύχτα σε πολυτελές ξενοδοχείο; Γιατί μου μοιάζουν για μεταλλαγμένοι, μάλλον λόγω των συγγενομιξιών που είμαι βέβαιος ότι παίζει εκεί μέσα. Αν πάντως το σόου του Jeremy Kyle μου έμαθε ένα πράγμα, αυτό είναι ότι δε χρειάζεται να είσαι αδύνατος, έξυπνος και με λεφτά για να γαμάς συνέχεια. Κι αν συγκρίνεις τον εαυτό σου με nouveau riche, πάλι καλά. Βλέπεις όμως Jeremy Kyle γιατί; Δεν είναι κατόρθωμα να είσαι καλύτερος από τον κατιμά της ανθρωπότητας.

Ναι το ξέρω ότι το πρόγραμμα του Jeremy Kyle είναι καθημερινές αλλά το χάζεψα μια δυο φορές που δούλευα απ’ το σπίτι.  Σου δίνει αντικίνητρο αν είσαι τεμπέλης.

So here’s something that we didn’t know thus far. Being stressed at work can be bad for your heart. It can also be bad for your personal life and your marriage but for some reason these two don’t seem matter much for the papers whenever they feature an article about overtime.

On an average week I work 60 – 65 hours and I get paid for 40. I don’t like it but I doubt it’s any different in most software companies unless you work in GooglePlex where, as we keep being told, it’s fucking awesome. The point I’m trying to make is that before that heart problem that you may or may not develop sometime in your career, you will lose other things, earlier.

Well I suppose if we bring this to our boss’s attention that’ll fix things, eh.
